Divine Role of Women

In this day where womanhood and motherhood are often demeaned by those who do not understand the principles and doctrine behind the message, it is for us, women of the church, to stand-up and let our beliefs and understanding be known.

This beautiful message from sister Marianne C. Sharp is a great reminder of all that is noble and good about being a woman in these latter-days.  She teaches about the Divine Role of Woman and what that actually entails.

Yes, these are true principles.  And, yes, we are to be helpmates to our husbands if we have them,
guiding examples to our children, and...students of the scriptures.  By doing so, we can understand and have firmly rooted in our hearts the doctrine - so that we may enjoy the blessings that come from this counsel.  Truth obeyed, provides blessings to be received.

We've been instructed, for years, from Prophets of God as to our proper roles.  They are sacred, noble and fit for each of us.  We have also been taught from whence we come and why these roles are God-given.

President Benson said: "We’re here—our memories are veiled—and we’re showing God and ourselves what we can do. And nothing is going to startle us more when we pass through the veil to the other side than to realize how well we know our Father and how familiar his face is to us. And then, as President Brigham Young said, we’re going to wonder why we were so stupid in the flesh."

I often wonder, as did Brigham Young, why we are so stupid in the flesh.  The following is an indication of some of the ways in which we are:

"Sometimes in our attempts to mimic the world, contrary to the prophet's counsel, we run after the world's false educational, political, musical, and dress ideas. New worldly standards take over, a gradual breakdown occurs, and finally, after much suffering, a humble people are ready to be taught once again a higher law....and... if better standards are to be observed, there must be a better people to do it."  Pres. Benson

Sister Julie B. Beck reminded us:  "In order to do our part as women under the Lord’s plan, we must stand strong and immovable in faith, strong and immovable in family, and strong and immovable in relief. We must excel in these three important areas which set us apart as the Lord’s disciples..... It is so tremendously important that the women of the Church stand strong and immovable for that which is correct and proper under the plan of the Lord.

Part of that means fulfilling our nurturing roles as wives and mothers, sisters, friends, parents, teachers, and neighbors.  I have found no greater joy in life than in filling this role and understanding my part in the plan.  I have longed for an eternal companion but have, as yet, not had that blessing.  Yet, I find my greatest joy in living the principles that I can and in finding joy in my children and our family unit.  There truly is no greater joy.

Sister Beck continues speaking about the roles of women in protecting home and family:
"We, as disciples of Christ, can and should be the very best in the world at upholding, nourishing, and protecting families."

As I have studied about the Last-days, the Second Coming of Christ, and the role of the Family in Preserving Faith and Freedom, I have become even more rooted in my belief of the principles that have been taught us by Prophets of God.  I know that they are not often popular in the 'world', but, by true believers they are.  We have much good to look forward to in the future - especially as we further our commitment to the Divine roles of both men and women in the plan of God.
