The first Sunday of each month we fast as a world-wide church population. We fast for 24 hours and donate the amount of money that we would have used for meals (plus more if we are able) to charity.

Fasting is a blessing in many ways. We turn our hearts to the Lord in prayer, supplicating His blessings and power to be with us. We seek to be more humble, prayerful and teachable. Fasting also allows us the opportunity to have our spirit strengthened over our bodily appetites. In this way we are more receptive to the Spirit of the Lord and answers to prayers that we are seeking.

It's not always easy to fast, nor to have children fast, but it is a blessing that provides many other blessings. Those who have health problems or nursing babies are not asked to fast. They will still be blessed as the Lord knows their desires and intents.

Fasting, combined with sincere prayer, has brought me blessings that are too sacred to write on here. I have gained my own personal witness of it's blessings; both physical and spiritual. It is a cleansing agent in both areas.
